“I believe in obtaining consent to photograph, if possible. If someone asks me not to photograph them, I don’t try to convince them otherwise. I want my subjects to have their guard down, so I can capture a moment of self-reflection. It gives the sense that there’s a story to be told, concerning the subject and concerning humanity.” —James Autery
James Autery has been photographing and printing in the darkroom since high school. His work has shown at the MPLS Photo Center, Center for Contemporary Arts Santa Fe, and fototazo photography + microgrants. He has lived all over the United States working on various photographic projects and is now based in upstate New York.
